A few questions:
1) Does the VA provide basic optometric services to Vets - e.g.
glasses, contacts, basic exams, etc?
2) If yes, is VistA used to track this type of patient care?
Thanks!

From an earlier thread, a participant mentioned that ordering IVs is handled completely outside of VistA. I just wanted to confirm this and also find out how the VA does handle IVs. Also, is there anything about VistA that precludes its use with IVs?

Are there any other areas in VistA (aside from pharmacy) that require clinical reference data and are _not_ regularly updated from the VA (and made available external to the VA). Labs, clinical reminders/guidelines, etc?

Of course - the question is whether there is a process to propagate
all of those updates from the VA to the open source community. We
already know about the pharmacy issue. The question is what other
updates ( if any ) other than pharmacy are not covered by the normal

In VistA are problems intended to be symptoms/complaints or a diagnosis. For example, suppose a patient presents with memory loss and dementia. Would a physician create two problems as follows:

As far as I can tell, VistA doesn't seem to associate orders, lab tests, etc. with a patient problem(s). Why is that? I'm not a physician, so my preconceptions about workflow are probably wrong - hence my question. Do most EMRs function in this manner?

What is the proper / safe procedure for backing up a VistA installation? I ask this question separately for gtm and Cache. My guess is:

5) Re-start everything.
