Yes it can always still be the modem even if on the approved list since
that list is slow to update. DocSIS 1.0 is most likely not going to go
faster than 3mb/sec anyway even if stable.
After the last round of Comcast network upgrades I was being told my
SB4100 was not supported even though

If they can ping you, then they are none the wiser. Of course that's one
of the 1st things firewalls block out-of-the-box rightly so. Mine has
been configured to allow traffic from their private IP range for ping,
DHCP, etc...
I get a real kick out of them asking me to plug my box directly

:-( Doh. I wish I hadn't installed it now. At least it didn't cost me
anything as I have an MSDN subscription.
Thanks for the advice though.

You remember it as I remember it. USB support might not have been in the
original 98. But, IIRC, the 2nd update (not SE) added limited support for
it but was problematic.

OK. Not great, but OK. Go look up the Unofficial Service Pack 2 for Windows
98 on Google. It largely fixes this and adds universal support for USB Mass
Storage Devices.

OK, I can get the Moratoria 5120 at CompUSA for 60 bucks after rebates,
which is what I would kind of like to do. or Cox has the Motorola 5100 for
$80 new or $50 used. I am tempted to buy a used one, just because it is COX
and they would have to stand behind it. What do you guys think?

my sb5120 was only $60 from Cox ?
If you get it from Cox returning might be easier if it had a problem.

Well, this morning I called them and they said they had the SB5100
79.95 new and 49.95 used. I went down there and discovered that, in fact,
that's weird, I would have done the same thing.
guess can not get it's crap together.

Well,
OK. I did try this one. It did not work. I rcvd a version/install mis-match.
The fix did not install. But, I still have the patch-if there is some fancy
command string that will get it to play.
[God, I really hate this web-based mail system! ... LOL]
Can I phone direct?
