I have a computer that won't open .wmv extensions from inside OE (it
says there is no file association) but if I save the file on the
desktop, then it opens fine with a double click. So for some reason,
OE is ignoring the file association. Anyone ever see this?

Why they had to change the entire interface and
rename all the control panel applets is beyond me. Arrogance, I
would guess. Or total lack of interest in their customers.
Call it change for the sake of change... The car manufacturers used
to do that... I don't know

I think if you have a premium graphics card, Vista is able to take more
advantage of it than XP.

Three different systems:
X2 4800 with 4GB PC3200, 6600GT
Core 2 Duo 3.2GHz with 4GB PC8500, 7900GS
Core 2 Duo 3.6GHz with 4GB PC7200, X1900XT
That's not to say there aren't problems...VPN connectivity, the Control
Panel redesign as you mentioned, and the driver situation (especially in
Vista64 like I run). I'm optimistic that these issues will be resolved
shortly.
Greg
I wouldn't count on the driver issues being resolved any time

No, i think the reason is much more sinister than that, Thane. MS just
wants to control the mind space of people for another five years. They
can't do that with just a simple update to XP. They need something that
looks and feels different, so that people can have something to spend
time and

I installed a patch from MS that makes bak files when this runs and as long as
it does not crash all is well, restore from recycle bin.

Every once in a while ( and a lot lately) OE asks to compact boxes and if I do
in box goes bye bye.
Anyway to turn off this annoyance ? Wife is the only one that uses OE, I use
Eudora. Can not find any settings to get rid of this * feature *
BTW there is not much there so not sure what it
I get that message (constantly) when my empty HD space
starts to get pretty small. This triggers before the similar

it globally (while doing things in other programs...)
Have you checked your empty HD space?

good thought but I'm 72% free. Drive is a 250gb in two partitions ( 200 and 50
) I remember seeing a setting for that somewhere, I'll un check it and see.
Thanks

OE6 will pop up the folder compaction request after it has been
opened and closed 100 times. The only way to avoid it is to
compact folders manually. I do the manual compaction about
once a week, right after emptying the Deleted Items folder.
Think of it as a necessary housekeeping chore, like

Did you set the Views box to Show All Messages?
If the inbox gets really big, OE will get all kinds of unstable. OE holds
some mbs in memory, though I can't remember which. I think the inbox is
one, but there may be others.
