That's true.. :)
In the old days you used to have to call when you signed up and they made your
ID right then over the phone, now the CD has SW that does it. :)
I used to have an URL to the SBC website where you could enter and get your ID
and such without having to use the CD..

The problem is that the CD installs all sorts of unnecessary crap.
It is best not to use the CD.

Not too cautious to my way of thinking. I have never to this day installed the

I just found the settings pages online and set up windows with the proper DNS

Really? Do tell. Not in the version of ME I see on this machine. Tried

Thane,
Tried this idea. From the route given, no option visible for either Copy

No problem anyway anymore! Was finally able to boot to dos with a tweaked

Yeah, we just had procurement buy the Dell compatible stuff and we used the

Is there anything unique to Dell BIOS or Windows ME that could prevent me

Yep, many of those older Dells required Dell branded memory.
I had some like that at work and hated it. Not sure of the years when they
did this, but if the spd on the dram chips were not OEM Dell, they would
not work..

Have you tried the new DIMM by itself? If it doesn't work, then the

Nope, but I will today! Did not cross my mindDOH!
But, from what JRS shared, I may be dead anyway, unless I can disable SPD
checking in bios.
(but I will at least test the 2d DIMM slot with the DELL DIMM anyway..)
Another confirmation of why I build my own PC's from scratch. LOL!!
Drat! Do not remember that. How pansy! No wonder Dell is so loved here! NOT!

Jim,
Oddly, I tried my Crucial DIMM pair first. Failed hard as I described. I use
the Crucial pair 1st on these fixes because they usually work. Not this time.
May be OK, but I have a 4100 that fails on 3 pair of PC133 SDRAM DIMMS.

Tried 1 of all my 3x pairs of DIMMs and NONE of them will play.
Know the bios is A06. Do have latest bios=A11.
Maybe it will un-lock this glitch.
If I can built a bootable FD with the new bios, I may still get lucky.
I know this is a transitional problem.

I thought it was ActiveX. I imagine that it would run much better on

Last month I lost the hd on my main office system. I'm on a temp machine with

Put in most of the needed patches and sr's for both. For the last 3 days, I've

What application creates them? Can I turn off their creation?
Thanks.
