but I'd suspect and replace any realtech based card with an Intel based
card.

I have in fact been using top to check processes, and I am always
running below 10% CPU when the lag spikes start and finish
card.
I changed the card to a D-Link.

passwords ;). Have you got people to do traceroutes to the server when
there's lag spikes? Also watch the cpu usage and load on the server as
they're normally the best
