If you are going to be primarily running valve games on it (cs and say hl2 once it comes out) I would definately go with the opterons, as valve have posted info on how much better the opteron can run their 64bit binaries. The only thing in my mind, is the operating system's ability to run 64bit an

Since CS1.6 we have really bad performance on our dual Xeon's. We can only host three 16Slot CS servers on a dual Xeon 2,66GHZ @533 HT / 2GB DDR PC266 / U320 SCSI.
