I take it you have some issues with FC USRLIMIT * %CPU or FC LIMIT

my attention at times.

Title: Question about VM crash
Is it possible for VM (z/VM 5.2 z890) to crash and not leave a trace?
Nothing in the hardware (HMC) messages.
Nothing in the PROP log file.
And no DUMP in OPERATNS rdr.
I am a little confused, I can't recall ever seeing this happen before.
I don't think

Another colleague suggested there might not be enough DUMP space to hold
a dump. What are the results of QUERY DUMP?

Kris,
IBM Belgium, VM customer support
The BKS and BKI files exist. The BKS file is used by IBM's library server
to create page http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-
bin/bookmgr_OS390/Shelves/hcsh2a80. The BKI file is used to perform
searches from that page. SOMEONE created them.
Today the missing link has reappeared -- possibly
I hope that this list may assist or point me in the right
direction for this problem.
I have inherited an incomplete project from a coworker that
is longer with the school. Currently we have a Z/VM 4.4 system in a separate LPAR
called TECH, that was to be used to convert an set of array

I was under the impression we had only a one engine CPU and no IFL. But
how can I be sure? Don't you have to configure the LPAR in some way to

Title: RE: Question about VM crash
Thanks Kris, Kurt, and others.
I was able to identify the problem as a PRG001 but thanks to SFPURGER (damned automation -:( ) the dump was purged from OPERATNS rdr .. I fixed that problem but I'll have to wait (hopefully forever) to get another dump.
Tom
In that case, let me offer you another code fragment that you might want
to put in FCONX PROFILE in VMSYS:4VMPTK40.PERFTK.CUSCONFIG.:
FC PROCESS ERR * 'USL317A' D RER LAFLAMME CPMSGN
FC PROCESS ERR * 'PER315A' D RER OPERATOR CPMSGN
FC PROCESS ERR * 'USL317A' D RER OPERATOR CPMSGN
Use your own
After doing some further reading, it looks
like I am confused with the use of the word LPAR.
I am used to the old days meaning of LPAR
being the equivalent of VM to use machine resources to emulate multiple
machines.
Now it looks like LPAR means one to one machine
emulation, ie one LPAR
You can define as many LPARs as your machine type allows. Each LPAR will
have (one or more) standard CPUs or (one or more) IFL CPUs assigned to
it but not both. A CPU can be assigned to more than one LPAR. If you
wish to use both standard and IFL CPUs you must have at least 2 LPARs
defined.
Thanks Mark. I have found the answer on the MP3000 in the configuration
section of my LPARs. The TECH LPAR is marked as LINUX only. My next
question is I think that I still don't have an IFL. Can the general
processor be shared between these 2 LPARs with the TECH LPAR marked as
Linux only? What
