is there a way to get the cpu model from an HMC panel? I have searched

You are right, I could do that. The only thing makes me reluctant is that

I know form MVS you can issue a d m=cpu and it will give lots of info
Ie: CPC ND = 002086.A04.IBM.02.03CC
CPC SI = 2086.110.IBM.02.03CC
CPC ID = 00
I don't know if VM has a like command

We have a 2066 and when I logon to the HMC as SYSPROG, highlight
the icon for DEFINED CPCs then select SYSTEM INFORMATION it
shows CPU model, type and serial number.

We run version 2.10 of the HMC code. Under it I can go to the CPC

a locally written exec Alain ?

We recently installed zVM 5.3 onto our test VM LPAR (production is still

The book is wrong when telling you where to put ETC HOSTS file. it should be on
TCPMAINT's 592 disk.
This disk has to be accessed by whoever is doing the PING...
At least that is what they told me, and it works.

Where's your TCPIP DATA file? It names the TCPIP server, as well as the
DNS servers to use.

Right, mulitple physical displays being driven from a single PC. That
can be done on the hardware level. Something like that is describe here:

I don't know the above people, I just found them
And I include the ETC HOSTS for the fast path to any of my zSeries based
linux servers where the IPaddress will not change very often.
