Hi, Jack.
If you are asking if Linux as a guest of z/VM can write records to a CMS
file, the answer is no. Or am I completely missing your query?
Linux can, of course, create 'record' files (using, say, CRLF as the
record boundary delimiter) to files in a Linux file system.

Well Linux expects a directory structure so normal CMS disks aren't easily

I can think of one or two ways to model that to Linux.

Jack,
Please don't run salt in the wounds of history, Many VM Hacks would love to
provide such things, but for a number of reasons it is becoming harder to
provide integration into the brave new world. Some if this is because to an
extent IBM locked VM CMS in a closed closet source wise, and

Well, seeing as there are at least a couple of IBM characters here, I
was more
trying to rub salt in IBM :) I mean, making it easier to use the blessed
machines
in real life probably means they'll be used more.

I neglected to mention that the new USERC DIRECT A must be copied back to the
appropriate SYSC-owned mdisk (MAINT 2CC?) as USER DIRECT.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the information. The one thing I forgot to mention was that I
cannot access the new addresses from the z/VM LPAR that I am copying to.
So that is why I needed a way to make the changes before I copied the
packs over so that when they were copied to the new the System Config

Terry,
Let's assume for a moment that both MAINT CF1 and MAINT 2CC live on your
current sysres volume (call itoldRES).
1) Copy it to another volume accessible on your current system,
2) use DDR to copy oldRES to newRES, then
3) add two temporary MAINT mdisks on your current system -

CONFIG such as specifying anything more than 3270 console or printer
addresses in SYSTEM CONFIG, there's not much that you're going to have
to do there. Are you going to be copying dasd, other than sysowned
devices, or are

I hope this helps.
So there is the start of one but a) doesn't write and b) it doesn't groove
with the new Linux kernel model for file systems, did I get you right?
