Folks,
Our storage folks have come across a dasd volume that apparently
by it's name was one of our VM volumes. Now, none of my 3 vm's have this
volume on line and I would like to just have a look see as to what was
on the volume. Is there a utility to do this? We have Vmdirect but I
Here it depends as to what type of dasd the home directory lies on. IF
it is on CKD dasd, we utilize our z/OS system running Dasd Backup
Supervisor which creates FDR jobs to back up the entire volume. IF the
home directory lies on ( or even if we wish to back up just the home
directory off of
vm resources provided us with a course in house for a week about 2
years ago. We kinda tailored it to our needs and I'll believe you'll
find them accommodating. They have a web site to view last I knew.
Also, some of us attended a two maybe two and half day class in
Poughkeepsie on how to
or even recognize it. That's
when we tried the format from 0 1 and it worked for us in that z/OS
using FDR could then back it up.

did not do CPFMTXA and z/OS could not handle the volume. Had to run
CPFMTXA on the 0 - 1 cyls to put that index vtoc out there.

Karla,
We have a product here called FDR/Upstream which is used for
backups from various platforms. We found that is not only does
backups but can issue commands to run on various platforms. SO here's
what we do -
1. CA-7 is our batch production job scheduler that runs on z/OS.

Folks,
Back in Oct or so we installed new z9's with added storage and
IFL's. BUT, since we were under the gun we chose to just get us up as
were and add storage and or IFL later. So our VM system had 4g of
central and 1.5 of expanded. Well, a couple of months later I went to
the HMC and
you say 'bounced the VM lpar'...did you deactivate and
activate the LPAR?
Something we found that for some reason takes a lot of Xstore is
VDISKs...do you use
them regularly?

Thanx. I'm thinking that z/VM must require that. Our z/OS systems
picked up that change without that happening and after doing it on

From things I'm learning, it sure seems putting anything you can in
autlog1 rather than system config is a good thing. I have a new vm
IFL that is being configured on another mainframe and I'm moving all
my modify vswitches in system config to grants in autolog1.
