After a system restart OPERATOR's console hangs on its very first screen
in HOLDING status (I guess due to the fact that some system messages are
highlighted) and is waiting until the screen is cleared manually. Though
there is not any other prompt to be answered and the system itself

I'd like
I'd like to give the STATUS area different colors on different z/VM
systems.
The command SCREEN STATAREA color in the CP directory seems to be a
solution.
However, the desired result appears only after hitting the CLEAR key
while after hitting ENTER the default color blue returns - wherever

More sophisticated backup tools you can get for Euros e.g. from CA, IBM,
and I believe also others.
We've been working with VM:Backup for about twenty years.

I fully support Phil's claim!
I have been sharing minidisks between several systems for years and any
change is hard work, though error-prone, to keep those 100% synchronous
without ESM and *MAP* programs working across system boundaries.

We have some services which should be up during normal working hours
only, i.e. not on weekends and not on public holidays either.
Could be done by WAKEUP, but ...

Is there anybody at IBM who can tell about the latest plans?
Not that we had actual problems, but RSU 6103 is from May (just two
months after RSU 6102) and I have to keep our z/VM systems as

Did you run the allocation part of CPFMTXA after you had formatted the

Hi Ashwin,
Establish a R/O link from MAINT as vadr to that E102 and then enter:
cpfmtxa vadr DVPAGA allocate
This will read the allocation map directly from the volume without the
risk to disturb it.
I do not believe that your z/VM 6.1 would not recognize allocation
records if they were written
I can confirm one part of the experience Kris described:
It happens then and only then if the requestor runs disconnected and a
secondary user exists.
Also IUCV *ASYNCMD is defined to MAINT's directory entry (can I query that
somehow from the user?)
and the TRYFOR EXEC specifys a path as Alan
I have build a REXX program on base of the TRYFOR SAMPEXEC in order to
submit FOR commands and receive any response automatically.
So far nearly all works fine.
The only snag is that in case the virtual machine runs disconnected
response from a QUERY SET is placed additionally to the CONSOLE LOG

I want to close the console logs of several server virtual machines on a

Is there something on the basic system I could use
