Can someone tell me what CA means by upload the UPLOAD.EXEC file to
your z/VM userid specifying text translation.?
It doesn't appear they mean ASCII (by way of FTP), because that doesn't
work

Hi, Dave.
What's the invalid character in line 2653? You can edit the UPLOAD exec file in Xedit,
make the last line in the file the current line, and then issue the Xedit command hextype.
That will show you the line in both hex and character modes.

That did it! I checked the end of the file and found an invalid

files extracted as they should.
Thanks for your help!!

I'm glad to hear that, Dave
Because I have had problems like the one Dave had with using FTP to upload files to VM, I
now use, if it's possible, the IND$FILE file transfer built into many of the major TN3270
emulators, including the text-based c3270 one for Linux. The VM IND$FILE module
All this time I've been using FTP when I could have been using X3270 to
do my file transfers
You're a life-saver (or at least a time-saver), Dave!!
Thanks!

It doesn't appear they mean ASCII (by way of FTP), because that doesn't
work with the next step of:
EXEC UPLOAD EXTRACT A
Which generates an error.
Is there a command to specify
