Hi
I need to know if there is a download manager for linux - that allows
manual interupts and enables restarting from the point of stopping -
(even after the machine is shut down and restarted).
I do not use ftp or telnet to download from the net. So it will have to
be those GUI kind of stuff.

My all time favourite: Prozilla. Simple. Text Based. Very fast.
Beautiful: http://prozilla.genesys.ro/?p=prozilla
Option to resume as well.
Can split into as many parts as you want to.
Can give options to check for the fastest mirror.

Dont. Use an unpatched distribution (like Fedora Core 3 or Ubuntu) where
you can get people to actually help you out at the zillion forums and
mailing lists that they have.
ram u can try installing transcode through urpmi if you have a decent
internet connection
http://www.urpmi-addmedia.org/index2.php
urpmi.updatemedia main contrib (I'm not sure.. which package
transcode is on. )
urpmi transcode should get you transcode (it downloads about couple
of MBs or so.)
Hi
The only reason I wanted to use pcqlinux was because of the patches - I
don't have access to an unlimted band width connection and wanted to
make use of software loaded on.
However - why would you advice against installing a patches distro ?
Just to understand better.
