Hi,
We are planning a series of stories and interviews of open source
start-ups from India (Linus' interview triggered the need). So, if you
know any such start-up please let me know.

I've been running an ASUS P8P67 Pro with an i5 2500K with Ubuntu 11.10.
HTH. I've had a lot more issues due to my Radeon card than the mobo,
Everything ran out of the box.
But you will definitely find yourself irritated with the fact that only
Windows is able to harness everything. For instance,
I bought a dh67bl with i7, for use with centos 6. Ultimately had to install
fedora 15, as rhel is not yet supporting Intel Sandybridge architecture.
Turns out, if you are putting in a separate graphics card, Linux will work
very well on this board...however, if you propose to use onboard graphics
Drivers are the part of kernel not the distro. As per my knowledge all
distros use same kernel with some custom patches. If you want support
for latest hardware, download the latest kernel source from kernel.org
and compile it.

Most of these distros are binary based, i.e., they are compiled for generic
hardware. They detect the hardware and load the appropriate driver modules.
what i am trying to say is, between the time their kernel was compiled and
now, drivers for newer hardware may have been written and to use those

No vendor is giving a board with assurance that Linux runs on their
board/s. If I but without that assurance, and it does not work, the board
becomes a costly paper-weight for me.

Does anyone have any info on what UID/Aadhar is using? They mention
Middle-ware is open source, which may imply rest of the stack is
proprietary/non-free. Also most contracts have gone to Wipro (Nilekani's
company) and MS hub.
Can someone provide some concrete info or pointers?

What is an open source
I've been to the UID registration camp in my area. There is no involvement
of linux/open source software. The data entry module was made in .NET and
was working on an HCL laptop with Windows. The backend, AFAIK, is running
on windows servers with MS SQL Server. It is truly sad.
