Sounds to me like a wire short, if there is something like a +5V line
getting crossed with a ground making the system lock up instead of
disabling the single USB port.
As for mice, I've always used Microsoft mice and never had problems with
them. I've typically used Microsoft Intelimous

Stop using wireless MIce.
They're designed for single computer rooms only. bunching them all up
in a single room is bound to make trouble.
Pick up some real lab-grade mice (AKA Corded mice) and your problem is solved.
There is no easy fix for this.
