Two thoughts on the home internet thing:
First, that's something you want to look at in the planning stages of a 1:1,
because the percentage of homes with internet access (or even high speed
internet) can affect how the 1:1 is implemented. One of the reasons for a
1:1 is to take learning
Going to agree with TIm on this.
1) We did a survey of our students before the roll out and found out
that 96% of our students had internet at home, now some of those are
just dial-up but not many.
2) Also we spoke with the public libraries in the communities that
make up our district and

Pocahontas Area is doing a 1:1 with H-P Netbooks. We are in the
middle planning stages. I just recently stepped into the tech position after
being retired for two and a half years. I am a bit more cautious in a 1:1

I've been blissfully retired for 2.5 years and have missed most of the

7-12 building. My elem is all apple too, 3 labs and 25 or so

student laptops are Apple, as are our main servers. Teachers in grades PK-3
and 9-12 all have Apple laptops, as do special-ed staff, counselor, study
hall supervisor, and ELL/At-Risk teacher. Grades 4-8 are all Windows, and

this fall. We went with Lenovo laptops, the first go-around was with Gateway
tablets. I wish I could say that the time just flew by, but there were too
