I, too, use glass bobbins. My first pair was a gift, or I'd have assumed
they'd break too easily to buy any myself. In 10 years since I got my first

I bought a pair of these bobbins on ebay a few weeks ago. I found them a
little chunky (diameter 3/8ths inch) and somewhat longer (5.25 inches
without spangle) than the other midlands bobbins that I use - they'll
be fine for me for gimp though. You may need to take this into

Tufnell appears to be the one then. Also, looking at the website, the two
I've already got are from him - so the rest should feel similar enough. An
added extra, the price isn't too bad to slowly work my way up to lots of
glass bobbins. I had visions of them being well over £5 each!

The first glass bobbins I got were a gift (don't know who made them,
but I've seen them for sale by Holly van Sciver). I'd never have
bought them, being afraid they'd break too easily, but I wanted to use
my gift so I put them on a pillow. I now have maybe a dozen glassies.

Yes, indeed. Bill Tuffnell is still making glass bobbins among other
things. He was a speaker at our lace day a few years back and had us almost
crying with laughter. A real character as well as a very skilled craftsman.
