Many thanks to those of you who gave valuable answers, especially Ray, Kim
and Phillip.
I'm currently running Dachstein, because I don't think the default Bering
dist will run on my 486CPU (2.4 kernel?) Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
So that leaves me using Seattle Firewall as my firewall soft
OK, I threw away a days worth of work, and switched to Bering.
It looks like it's operational.
I still have a ways to go.
It seems that it takes a LONG time to back up all to a floppy (hour+??) Any
suggestions?
I got nothing out of the masqueraded systems untill I typed 'shorewall

Argh. Gateway/firewall is down.
Tried to include ide support, because it took S long to rebuild/recopy
all the floppy files. Now the system dies with a RAMDrive CRC error (bad

All my firewall rules, etc gone.

Thank you for your time. I DO APPRECIATE the prompt, and mostly accurate
support this group provides. Perhaps some day I can assist, when I've a bit
more experience in this specific arena. (I'm not afraid of writing technical
documentation.)

1.3.1 is the version I am running. I do not see any errors after issuing the

Is it possible that the Bering fw is modifying the lease time?

SPARC/Classic machines...and this seems like a quick way to check out the
