I had done all that, but just to be sure, I did it again. I went in and chose my colors and UNCHECKED the box to dispay the colors. They all went away. Then I went back and re-checked it. I still have the same issue. After I sent my message last night, I discovered that the

Tools Apply Ancestor Colours.
Do this when the base person is highlighted in Family View or
navigate to your base person in the dialogue.
