I have spent thousands of hours (not sure I would want to know exactly how many!) working on my database. I now have over 713,000 individuals in my database, which is over 1GB in size. Frankly, I don't want to lose all that time and work! So I use a cloud backup service (BackBlaze) as a backup.

I never do that. I take a backup daily of my files and they go on a NAS drive. I keep a dummy copy for show and tells, but never connect them to the main files, So no on the fly updates. I also do not understand how 700K names can result in 1 GB. I have less than 100K folks and run at well over

I should clarify that in my case it is a thumb drive (16GB). I just carry it to the other computer. The only trick is organizing the drive letters so that everything can be found on either computer. I don’t ‘update’ the second computer, other than backups. This avoids any accidental confusion on

Margaret, On the second computer, copy the .fdb  into the data folder (it will overwrite the old one) and copy any updated media folders to the second computer also, and you in business and up to date on that computer.  This also works in reverse ie:  updating computer 1 from cpmputer 2.  I w

Ian, The database file itself (*.fdb) contains only links to your media files. As such it is indeed far smaller than the 7GB you quote. Your 7GB is probably the backup size of the *.fdb file AND your media files (pictures etc) stored on your pc. Kind regards, Johan From: Lega

Ian, Those only connected by links to the data file.  I think you may be looking at the size of the data folder.  If you have a lot of back ups in it the folder could easily get to that size. the data file is the one with (name).fdb.  For instance, my own data folder  has 16 days of back up f
