I use Clooz and have since it first was developed. I never used spread sheets
(I've been collecting info since 1975) I used a colored coded filing system
where each family got a color and was filed by family name. It took Liz
Kerstens a while to convince to use a document numbered system. Now
The answers received are what the person answering the Question "In what place
did the person live on April 1, 1935" told the census taker. The suggestion to
check the age of the person that the "Same Place" refers to is a good one.
Census enumerators did take short cuts and filled in answers
listed as
Brown because the person at intake determined that the immigrant should
"Americanize" their name.
As for the second part of your statement...I agree. I do believe that the AKA
field i the best place to notate that.

make the name easier to pronounce and spell. They may have done it legally,

Having started using Legacy lng before they had a source maker, I
created my own templates. All the sources are entered under the name of the
person. If I'm using, say the 1860 census as a source, I just pull up the
template for the organization that digitized it for online retrieval,

families, my mother, my father, my husbands side). The citations I've given
the sources are numbered in CLOOZ and so there are duplicate numbers. If I
was starting now I'd make one project.

I have used CLOOZ since it was designed many years ago. It has helped me
keep track of documents collected. I don't use all the bells and whistles of
the program but it has made it much easier for me to locate a document
that I've used as proof of an event.
Documents are all numbered, place

sleeve and get filed in a 3 ring binder. The acid free page holders can be

My computer crashed and Dell put in a new hard drive and motherboard so I
had to reload everything. I was able to download version 7.5 but I needed a
password to do that. Then I needed my customer number to open the Deluxe
version.
I also purchased the Deluxe version of 8. I could not downlo

Here is what I call a template. I use templates for my citations of
sources.
This is for the 1850 Federal population census:
family entry; p , lines , [city], County, [state] Population of Census;

various templates for sources that I use over and over. Example is the 1850

This is a very basic Verson8 question. How do I get the date to change to
the full spelling of the month?
I'm playing with 8 and can't seem to find a way to change it and the

I did a restore. Paul solved the problem saying to check the way the
dates were set. When I loaded the file onto the new computer [nothing like
waiting until the last minute] the date setting in the program was for month,
day, year. I entered everything as day, month, year. Once I chan

I'm having to leave XP Pro to go to Win 7 Pro. When I backup my family
files in Legacy they show up with a logo on the desk top screen not in the
folder that I think I am saving to.

year of birth, death and marriage as well as fields for city, county and
state. I used to have them way back in the Roots/Visual Roots times.
So I do a work around. Legacy keeps track of my data.

You might try "The Handy Book for Genealogists" by Everton Publishing
Company, Inc. (Logan, UT). My edition is a 1982 version but it gives a short
history of each of the states and when each county was formed and which
county it was from.

Yes, it is well worth the effort. I use each as a stand alone so if I
decide to change a program I'm not locked in.
The extra time that it takes to enter into Clooz gives an opportunity to
really evaluate the document and the clues found in it.
