I wouldn't say it's GEDCOM's fault. Software developers have the option

Leon,
Not necessarily so with a GEDCOM
I did not use the term wasting but if Legacy requires an IT degree
to use I might as well go back to my previous program.

Jerry,
I do not think that the Legacy to Legacy transfer uses a GEDCOM. Although I
can see no reason why it should, and have been of this opinion for a long

If you export as a Legacy file you are NOT exporting a GEDCOM. You are
creating a new .fdb file that can be opened directly in Legacy.
If you are talking about exporting a GEDCOM for Legacy versus exporting
a GEDCOM in GEDCOM 5.5 format they are both GEDCOM files however the

It would seem I would export it as a GEDCOM but I can't seem to figure

Cheryl:
Here is the steps that will get what you want:
1. Position yourseld to person you want ancestors for in the Family View
2. Go to advanced tagging (Ctrl+T) (hold CTRL key and hit t)
3. Clear all Tags for Everyone
4. Select Tag # to use (Normally Tag #1)
5. Select Ancestors
6 Use
Thank you. That seems to do it.

I am going to guess this automatically does what Leon detailed out for
me. I am little nervous when L-Tools warns it will mess with my
original file. :-/ I don't know enough about tagging in Legacy to
know if I care.

The number of people chosen by a focus group is unlimited.
The number 100 is the limit on how many focus specification lines can be
included to describe who will be included in the final list of people.
