I have found various threads about using NED on a 3270 console to zLinux and I
thought this was a good idea. I read the 3270 HOWTO on linuxvm.org but it
seemed no longer relevant to recent kernels; I am running 2.6.26. I have no
tub3270 module so there is nothing under /proc/tty/drivers and so

I beg to disagree (sorry, Barton!). I have been running for years with the
defaults and never had an E-list problem. If you do, my suggestion is that
your system is wrongly set up. Most likel

I fully agree about the need for a performance monitor, but that is

Whenever I hear about z/VM guests
This reminds me
We have an obscure z/VM partition with a few linux guests on it that
don't require a lot of babysitting, as they are not really production
applications. A person in another group requested a new virtual machine
to install the latest RHEL, so I gave it to him. Later on I asked
I found it and it ran OK. The password is required for the web interface
only. The Windows client does not ask for it. Thanks to all!!!

Ok, Lea, i know i shouldn't do email before coffee. It's just problems like this have
caused many installations to say "We tried linux, had performance problems nobody could
fix so we abandoned the project". So see the CONFIGuration guidelines on our website, not
as good as going to class, but

OK Barton, I fixed it. Calm down.
My company does not believe in classes. I had a Windows Server class in 1997 or
1998 and am working VM/Linux with no classes.

It is probably your LDUBUF for Q3 users that is causing it.Change that

I was using a W2000 client and VNC did not respond to :1 or :2, but it
did respond on :5901. The doc said 5801 and did not state browser only.

I tried that and I could not get it to work, The firewall stopped all
access. I tried the standard port 2 and I tried 5801.

Look back in the performance toolkit data and see if an eligible list formed
around the time LX004 hung up. You may need to add more paging exposures
and/or adjust your SRM.

You might want to take a look at your Query SRM command. Check and see
if your LDUBUF and STORBUF have settings below 100%. If you are still
using the defaults it can lock Q3 users out from doing any work.
