Dear al,
Is there any information about availability of SLES 10 SP3 or SLES 11 for
z/Series?
I would need that for further planning of resources.
Thank's in advance.

Posting question to everyone on what you maybe using for your
backup/recovery for applications/systems(images)
Since we are just getting our feet wet I thought I'd ask the group what is
being used out there..everyone has product(s) or methods and I would be

At Citi, we are using the FDR UpStream product from Innovation Data Processing
to take file-level backups on zLinux. We run the server side on z/OS, with the
agent on zLinux. The backups run across a hipersocket connection between
zLinux and z/OS, using the existing z/OS tape infrastructure.
We separated our CMS and Linux DASD into two groups. The CMS disks are backed
up with DDR periodically (they're mostly R/O data), and the Linux disks are
backed up with Bacula to a separate Linux instance that is only used as a
backup server and can be shut down with impunity. The backup server
Here we do exactly the same AND we also take weekly backups from our
z/OS system using FDR classic to take full volume dumps of all our
volumes related to VM and MainFrameLinux. We realize those are fuzzy
but like them.

No real details. Testing for SLES 11 is at Release Candidate 4, so we're well
along there. What we're saying in public is
There is a good IBM Test Report on Backup and Restore Manager for z/VM with
examples for setting up a backup jobs for z/VM guests and Linux images.
It is in the June 2008 z/OS V1R9.0 System z Platform Test Report for z/OS

I have found that z/VM Backup and Restore Manger application is a great
tool for creating image backups of our zLinux and system dasd. We keep
one set of tapes on site and keep the offsite set of tapes at a remote
location.
We supplement these image backups with Tivoli Storage Manager Clients
Looks like this is going to be ugly. We booted on of our servers and the

I would be specially interested in the update of MONO. I have an application
that I cannot make run under s390x SLES 10 SP2. The same works well under
SLES 10 Intel.
May be a later version on s390x would fix it.
Best regards,
Florian

Novell doesn't have a stance. I do. It's an unnecessary exposure to pain I
can do without.

Well - when you tell someone 'and make sure you don't... ' - to me - it's
like you're giving them a 'best practice'. And too many people disagree
