We separated our CMS and Linux DASD into two groups. The CMS disks are backed up with DDR periodically (they're mostly R/O data), and the Linux disks are backed up with Bacula to a separate Linux instance that is only used as a backup server and can be shut down with impunity. The backup server is also dumped with DDR. At DR, restore 1 pack system, restore backup server and CMS disks in parallel, then restore individual Linux instances.
Backups are done from a Bacula client in the Linux guests over a VSWITCH internally (and some external systems over the network, since Bacula supports both w/o issue).
