don't specify what you do recommend (what in a LogVol and what not).
What about /boot or /root?

Oh, it completely aborts when this happens.
Okay, one more time
DASD Disk Management stated that they were formatted...requested it to format
them again.

I had not renamed RXSCSIFN.
It does seem to work now that I have done that.

Hi Dale, I'm not using Putty. I'm using a Linux "Shell - Konsole" on an
old version of Linux running on a PC, and I'm logging in with the
following command:
ssh -2 -4 -X r...@192.168.xxx.xxx
This is the same login command I use for both of my Suse9 and Suse10
systems.

As I've stated numerous times in the past, I strongly recommend you not have

That is not an error message, but an informational one. It simply mean

Okay, I got most of it figured out. The re-partitioning is hidden in some
"Expert" setting. I got it configured as follows:
/dev/dasda

256MB /boot

/dev/dasdb
(all) assigned to VOLGROUP00

No, you don't. DVD1 is all that is needed.

Hi, Frank.
In order to "resize" or delete allocated disk space, you first must
delete any partitions that you may have already created on the disk. The
you can reallocate the space.
You can put Linux swap space onto a real, physical 3390, but I would
suggest that you allocate Linux swap spac
Hi, Frank.
Well, how to partition the disks and assign them mount points really
depends on what you want to do with the Linux guest. However, given that
you have 4 3390 DASD available to your guest, you might try something
like this:
1) /dev/dasda1 -- "/"
2) /dev/dasdb1 -- /"usr"
3) /dev/das
Well, I'm trying to play around with the partitioning, but it won't let me
resize nor delete partitions. Do I have to dedicate a 3390-3 for swap space?

Hi Frank,
When I did the installation I had to specify the mountpoint manually. When
you create the root partition, you can specify the root mountpoint ( "/"
).
I have no idea why the automatic proposal was impossible. I didn't find it
useful to look further into it.
Best Regards,
Samir Redda
Okay, I have no immediate purpose for this, just trialing it. (I may move a
CentOS 4.7 server to it.) I have 4 3390-3 assigned to it.
So, where do I go to get some sort of idea as to where and how much to allocate
to the various file systems?

Hi, Frank.
Yes, the "no automatic proposal" is normal. Just select the "Change"
option and tell the installer script how you want your disk(s)
partitioned and where to assign the mount points. Don't forget to
allocate a swap disk, as well.
Let us know if you run into any other problems.

You'll be better off with a tarball that you untar on the CentOS server,
rather than copying to the Samba share from a samba client - and avoid any
file naming/creating/etc restrictions Samba (or Windows) is imposing.
