Here is a Brocade procedure for changing interop mode:
Solution Guide: Migrating from McData Fabric or Open Fabric Mode (IM2 or
IM3) to Brocade Native Fabric Mode (IM0)
We recently had a Brocade mode change and when the channel came back we were
flooded with the following messages and have not been able to attach any LUNs
to this channel (they attach and then timeout). Our zoning should only allow
us to see/discover one port.

Chris,
Have you tried to force the zfcp channels to do a port login (i.e. plogi)?
After changing the brocade interopmode, you must do this, otherwise your system
is probably trying to use it's previous port id mappings, which the interopmode
change changes.

on this list, there are many many different target WWPNS. Is it possible that
these are what your linux guests can actually see at the moment?
If that’s the case then your zonning does allow to see all of these despite of
what you have said.
Otherwise where linux would get these wwwpns from?
We have shutdown, deactivated the LPAR, activated and IPLd z/VM and are still
having issues. Would it help to offline the FCP port on the HMC? It looks
like it attaches and then timesout.

Hi,
I have been running IOZONE tests to 32 LVM volumes with ext2
filesystems on them. I am using a Sles11 SP4 guest on z/VM 6.3. I keep seeing
unusable path messages in /var/log/messages from Multipathd. However I don't

I would try taking the fcp port offline. The physical port is what get's the
initial port id and the config offline back online would be the only way, I
think, to have the plogi sequence operate correctly.

Scott,
Brocade FOS has had a configuration option called interopmode. This option (up
until FOS 7.x) allowed you to define the brocade switch/director to operate in
an interoperability mode with McData directors/switches.
The difference between native brocade mode and mcdata mode meant that
We have been running Domino (legacy Notes and now Xpages) applications on SuSE
successfully on zSeries. Now however am prompted to look at Red Hat on the same
platform. Does anyone use Domino on zSeries Red Hat? If so, how satisfied are
you with the compatibility, installs etc. Thanks.
NPIV is still in effect and we can get the servers going through another path
but we cannot get the backup working.

Did things change from NPIV to non-NPIV (or vice-a-versa)?

Changing the interopmode on the brocades from mcdata to brocade (which is what
it sounds like was done, to me), DOES change the portid that is assigned during
the PLOGI sequence. If the system does not re-login to the fabric and obtain
the new portid (port id changes due to the difference in
Ok - seems there is more to know (working path vs. non-working) - when you
said brocade mode change -- it's not clear what that means...

Hi Chris,
Config off, on from the HMC will free up the resources that those messages
are talking about, but I don't think it will help. Based your original
email, I think your zoning changed. It looks like everything is in a
single, giant zone, and you're running out of resources because all
Is it possible that NPIV got turned on and/or discreet zoning is not set up?
