Hi,
Just thought I'd mention this that has bitten us recently after a microcode
upgrade to our OSAExpress4 SX cards on a z196. At the advice of our local
hardware support, we're looking at backing it out, but as they're shared PCHIDs
it will take a bit of scheduling.

Hi Steve,
My only idea is to repeat this earlier content from Alan, two of whose emails I

Hi,
Not sure how, but somehow I broke Chrome so that it no longer connects to XCAT.

I did reboot the laptop but still no go for Chrome. Might have to reinstall

My xCAT/SMAPI setup is by the book, i.e. the two manuals I mentioned, (we use

Hi,
Thanks to Tom, Marci and Mike and an offline poster (you know who you are!).
I'll poke around a bit and once I've done a bit of cloning etc. post a summary

Hi,
I have a third entry listed in the xCAT Networks table as well as the two
subnets you have. I believe you need to add it but hopefully someone else will
confirm that.

That's also a good hint on the XCAT1 disk pool. We are keeping an eye on the
maintenance links you gave too, and have had to put a few on (e.g. for CMO).
I should also have mentioned this excellent Tutorial, which I think
Hi,
Firstly a specific question: I believe that the disk pool used by XCAT for its
ISO images is completely different to the one used for housing the data used by
the cloned guests. In my case the first pool is called XCAT1 and the second
pools are LINUX27 and LINUX54 (mod-27 and mod-54

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but if it's just a matter of starting something
after every z/OS IPL, we use /etc/rc for that, e.g. it's where we start

/usr/sbin/automount /etc/auto.master

Thanks for the info Thang and David.
We're looking around at all the options and XCAT does look very, very
interesting.

Hi List,
I'm trying to get a SLES11 guest to mount an NFS share from a z/OS NFS server.
All appears to work with the mount, i.e. it proceeds without obvious error, but
when I try to change to the mounted directory I get permission denied, even
when I'm root which I was quite surprised by.

Hi,
it was me asking about the DDname concatenation before. Named pipes looks to
have almost everything we need.
The scenario is a large SAS job sequentially reading dozens of tape datasets
under the one input DDNAME, which in the named pipe case might look like the
case outlined by Ed M.
Hi,
they're all good questions.
The problem I see is that on z/OS now we have just one read for each record on
the input file (which is actually a long sequence of chained tape datasets).
There are probably about ten million or so records to process each daily run,
of that order of magnitude

Hi,
I've searched around and drawn a blank. What I'm wondering is whether there is
a method in Linux that emulates a z/OS DDNAME's facility of allowing multiple
datasets to be concatenated and effectively treated as one file.
I looked at symbolic links, the cat command, variants of the mount
