Is there a way to disable or limit the amount of SwapCache? I understand
it's function, but the double allocation of these pages is causing my low
memory alerts to trip.
I can remove the swap copy with a swapoff/swapon. Is there a more elegant
way to remove?
Can HLASM for Linux (5799-TCQ) be licensed on a general purpose engine
without going thru a special bid process? Most hits I see only talk about
IFLs.

Using the HMC, I configured offline some z990 Ficon dasd chpids to a native
SLES8 64-bit (2.4.21-304) lpar. /proc/chpids now shows those chpids as
n/a. After configuring back online , I tried to issue echo on 20
/proc/chpids commands without being able to return the chpids to an online
status.
I have seen the recommendation to using a vdisk's of increasing size for
prioritized swap when running under vm. A couple of questions:
1. From a memory standpoint, does VM handle a 25% full 1 GB vdisk
differently than a 50% full 500 MB vdisk plus a 0% full 500 MB vdisk?
Specifically from a vm
I am running SLES8 for zSeries on a z990. My client is attempting to
install Domino. He previously had acquired a c82buna_Domino_654_linux.tar
file which contains a s390.rpm. When he attempted the install, he did not
get past the uname check for s390 (as opposed to s390x). He has since

I'm running SLES8/64bit using k_deflt-2.4.21-251 and vsftpd-1.1.0-21
connected via VSWITCH under zVM 5.1. When I try to initiate an FTP of a
200 MB file, I almost immediately drop my qeth connection. I am running
in a 5 GB virtual machine. If I drop down to a 2GB machine, it works ok.

Has anyone had any experience with configuring a zebra (model 170XI, in
particular) barcode printer using lpr? I've defined the printer using it's
IP address and remote queue name of portLF1 in /etc/printcap. The

I am attempting to move a SLES7(32) guest from a 9672 using a Guestlan
under z/VM 4.3 to a 2084 using vswitch under z/VM 4.4 (64 bit). I am
already running a number of SLES8(64 bit) guests in this environment. I
can't seem to route to/from this SLES7 image even though I have default

If I run Linux native in an LPAR, are there any options in establishing a

Cloning question. Can I change the label on a CDL formatted disk? Are
there any implications to eck3, reiser, swap or lvm? Is there a Linux tool
I should use or can I get by with a ickdsf cpvol label command?

I have installed SLES8/64 bit into both under z/VM 5.1 and a native z990
LPAR. I have connectivity via GB OSA, using vswitch for the guest
instance. Both instances have 1 GB of memory.
I am having trouble running Yast2 using my SLES7/Intel machine as my X

I guess that's where I am confused. Are J2EE and the IBMJava2-SDK the same
thing -or- is J2EE part of the IBMJava2-SDK -or- is J2EE another package
dependent on the IBMJava2-SDK? If a separate entity, I don't see it on the
download site.
