Martha,
We have been using a supported version of Liferay (Liferay EE) for over 2
years now and have not had any problems. Currently we are on IBM JRE 1.7
and 1.6 on a dev server. We use tomcat as provided by SLES 11 SP2 and SP3.

Tomcat does not like to have CLASSPATH set. It basically ignores it, except it
sometimes doesn't, then crashes. This almost qualifies as a FAQ (actually

I am not familiar with jmx.jar. If it is something you use for one application
it should be in the .war file

the current shell otherwise they "expire" as soon as the script

I submitted a ticket to SuSE/Novell on the Java/Tomcat bug. I got a reply
(below) that this appears to be a problem within IBM Java for zLinux itself and
i should report it to IBM. Anyone know how or where? Do I just go through
IBMLink or is there somewhere else?

I don't have your previous e-mails.. but:
I have installed IBMJava2-SDK-142 (downloaded from some IBM website) and I

needed libraries. If they ar
Does it crash on startup or only when a particular application function is
invoked?
Try
export LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libc.so.6
OR
export LD_PRELOAD=/lib/tls/libc.so.6
before you start Tomcat.
Can you send me the full core dump.

I've requested Gordon Wolfe send in a bug report to SuSE at this point.
Any other pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks

The vendor asked me to set up tomcat for automatic restart. But he only

Can anyone point me at the configuration options or scripts needed
