You need to set the permisions on your modem port to let the user use it
(probably add the user to group dialout)
you also need to set permisions one /etc/ppp if you want access the log
file.

I just had somewhat of the same problem.
What solved it is to put the partition containing the kernel on a primery
partition (won't work from logical partition for me, gave me problems
defining it as the bootable partition).
i then needed to define it as the bootable partition, install lilo on it

You've got a point. Maybe I was overheated that day.

This might help for the future:
I have a 13Gb disk, with LBA and fdisk reports (correctly) 1582 cylinders.
On the disk I have Win NT, OS/2 Warp 4 and SuSE 6.2. The way to do it is to
ensure that
the primary partition needed for Win XX is within the 1024 cyl limit AND, also
within
that limit, you

What about TrueType fonts? Windows has some fine TTFs . RedHat's font
server (that is - their own hacked xfs) supports TTFs, so basically all
you need to do is:
1. copy some .ttf files (for instance: from /mnt/dosc/windows/Fonts) to a
certain directory. For the sake of this example I assume it is

Well, if you think that Slackware might help, you can try the newest there
is from ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/linux/slackware-7.0/kernels/. Liloconf and
everything is there. If that helped you, then we probably found a nice
(yet surprising) discovery about RedHat and "their" LILO. Or you can try

I tried to make KPPP work without entering the root password when you're
a regular user in RedHat.
What I got as a return is nothing with a punishment for trying to mess:
Now, after I enter the password nothing happens, KPPP just won't run!!!
I started a X-console and typed "su": root password: an
Indid, I use LBA through the BIOS, but it sounds strange to me that it's a
problem, and I'll explain why:
Before I installed RedHat 6.1 I used SlackWare 3.6 and afterwards 4.0. Their
LILO (I know it sounds strange, because it's basically the same LILO) was
easy to configure and did NO problems to

no I wonder if this is a sign this list is
We had few similar problems in the Linux Installation Party -- we couldn't
make LILO finding the Linux partition, or the Windows 98 partition on a
very few computers, so it simply just skipped them away going directly

I installed redhat6.1 on my system. After overcoming on the problems of
having no bootable partition (using cfdisk from slackware install) I was
happy to start using redhat.
Anyway I faced against the following situations, looking for solutions

1) I don't want to write the root's passwo
