Apologize for a really petty question.
I tried out Gnomical Calendar (Gnome Calendar 1.4.0) applet, and got
hooked (entered in a lot of appointments). But suddenly for no
apparent reason, the background color of the Day View's off hours and
the Week View background turned to a deep blue, making t
When I upgraded RH 7.0->7.1, I experienced a partial loss of
postscript functionality, although normal ASCII printing OK.
a) For example, emacs prints an ASCII file, but not when that file is
sent to PS printer buffer. Error: "Can't find (or open) initialization
file (kfvflib.ps)."

Mike,
Worked like a gem. swapon/swapoff was entirely new to me. Thanks!

I did an upgrade from RedHat 7.0 to 7.1, and when I should have
clicked Skip I inadvertantly clicked OK to accept the old
partitioning. Instead, the result was that I created a
hugh swap file within /usr.
fdisk shows that still have a partition with ID82 and identified as
swap.

Oops. Sorry, my mistake. I should have specified that rmail lacks this
capability, and I clouded the issue by bringing in HTML, which only
happens to apply to a specific case.

I receive e-mails containing hex characters, and need some way to
covert them to Latin characters. Here's a sample:
=C8=AB=C7=F2=BB=AA=C8=CB=CD=C5=BD=E1=C6=F0=C0=B4=A3=AC=D2=BB=C7=D0=
=B7=C7=B9=B2=D7=E9=D6=AF=A1=A2=C5=C9=B1=F0=C1=AA=BA=CF=C6=F0=C0=B4=A3=AC
=A1=A1=A1=A1
=D4=DA=D6=D0=B9=B2=CC=E5=D6
There's innumerable mail clients, and a lot depends on just what you
want to do. For speed and efficiency, I happen to prefer rmail under
emacs. For news, I use gnus under emacs, but suspect there's an easier
way.

Anyone know of an open software or inexpensive application to use the
computer as an oscillscope under Linux?
More broadly (and more apropos to the list), how does one locate
specific applications for Linux such as this?

I asked this question some time ago, but the answers all addressed
gnus, not emacs' rmail utility. So let me try again: Is it possible to
attach a binary to an rmail message under emacs?
According to my GNU emacs book, emacs does not support binary file
attachments, although one can insert an ASC

alex,
I'm sure you will get many recommendations. Probably designing an
appropriate script for tar is the appropriate way to go.
If you insist on a GUI, there are some decent commercial products. My

I have a little puzzle.
User would like to start some backup software that must be run by
root. This happens often enough so that it would be convenient to put
a launcher in Gnome Panel's menu.
I assume the answer is to create a string that will su itself to root
by issuing the password, and the
In the note I just sent out, the command I'd need to delete a batch of

Sorry about that ommision.

Your reply cast a lot of light on the situation, but also led me into
