After months of struggling with the HPT366[1], I gave up and installed a
PDC20262. Now all my devices work perfectly. Even my cdrw and 40x cdrom
can now run in udma mode.
The HPT366 is just broken, broken,

I should probably add that the RAID areas are not system areas. They
contain data only, not any operating system files.

Hi,
and thanks a lot to all that replied so fast. I got it up
running now with a patched kernel.
What I do not understand is that much output from mkraid
that I have already posted in my first email. Do I have
to worry about it, because it came again this time ?
Greetings,

Uhm... did you maybe not patch your kernel source with the RAID 0.90 patches
before compiling?
You
this is a raid 0 array correct? if so, redhat may have a different chunk size
than the original created array, which could explain why the data appears
screwed up.
the thing to do is go back and mkraid on the array with different chunk sizes
until you find the original one. then the first ext2 su
Ive been fighting with the HPT366 controller for ages.
Just last night i got them working fine with (2.2.12 through to 2.2.15)
+ ide patch on my dual celeron bp6 using 5 drives, 1 from and intel

I can do "cat /dev/hdx >/dev/null" (x i

Hi all,
I am new to the use of raidtools. I want to set up a raid0 drive
with a scsi disk and an ide disk. I am using redhat-6.2, and I have
the latest kernel version 2.2.15 running, which I downloaded after
the normal installation. I needed it because I had trouble with the
tulip.o module in 2.2

NB: RAID0 and linear I would not expect to do anything.
RAID1, RAID4 and RAID5 are likely to scribble over some of the disks

I don't know the internals of RAID but I have just done a little
experiment - it probably won't help you sleep at night but I thought you
would like to know and it may help you.

Hello.
I've tried Gelnn's tip (thanks!), but still all superblocks seem to be
corrupted. This seems quite strange to me, since the volume has not
been formatted.
Is there anyone familiar with the internals of the RAID system, who could
tell me what actually happens when mkraid is called? *Should
For Linux raid 0.90 use:
# raidhotadd /dev/mdX /dev/your_spare_disk
In fact any (hot)added drive/partition to a _complete_ running
raid set, will be designated as spare. Yes you can have more
than one spare...

I have tried to get the latest Linux RAID patches to work with the ABit
BE6-2 onboard HPT366 controller (BIOS ver 1.21) without success. There
has been a bit of discussion relating to this on this mailing list (as
well as the Linux-kernel mailing list) so I was hoping this may help
someone and an
