Yes - my point (made unclearly, I admit) is that finding a Linux Expert is
no easy task.

Dirk,
Depending on your application, you may want to consider getting
_two_ linux boxes and setting up some form of clustered configuration.
Solaris or Linux, if you're relying on just one box for a mission
critical app - it's going to let you down sooner or later.
Maintenance tasks are much

What does "buying Solaris/HP/NT" have anything to do with job

hi,
i just touched the RESET button of our fileserver and my weekend went
away arghhh.
ironically this happend during setting up a tape library for backups -
which, of course is not finished.
after resetting the server made an fschk on the disks which caused 2 of
the 7 disks marked bad for the
at once.
The reset button is at least a bit harder to hit (ATX mid-towers on rack
shelves).

Yeah, but this is Really Bad(tm). I mean, if sw-raid can't 200% reliably
survive even a hard reset like that, what is the whole point of using it?
Well, it saves you against disk failures ;-)
I can't imagine what has happened in markus' case, but I tested SW RAID for
disk failures and it
