If you don't need to do any MIDI communication in or out of LMMS, I'd
suggest ALSA out to the "def

Yes. This is a major reason I don't use Ubuntu as my primary Desktop,
especially for music production. I never had luck mixing audio production
with things like YouTube and flash. This works fi

You need to set the "device" setting in the backend selection to point
it directly to your sound device. Otherwise P
At present I'm using LMMS with alsa as the selected backend, alsa-base
is installed. Presumably I've got pulse pretending to be alsa.

There's no need to remove PA. You can use ALSA directly in LMMS without
removing PA. You just can't use them at the same ti

Yeah. I've noted I can make stuff lovely for LMMS at the expense of
everything else, but that's not something I can reasonably do.

If I am not mistaken i have seen some how to's about removing pulse from
ones system but its a rather risky thing to try.

Well, that's your problem there. PA is not meant for audio work. Stop
using PA and use ALSA in LMMS, that's pretty much the only solution you
can do.
I had the opposite of what is happening to you on gentoo I had an issue
where i had to constantly select which audio back end. On gentoo there was
a recent update to pulseaudio which fixed that issue and as well the issue
of firefox not playing any audio for me.

So, sound on Linux ... continues to suck.
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 with the default Pulseaudio. Every now and
then, running LMMS, the sound goes funny and turns into nothing but
noise. (LMMS also plays faster when this happens!) The only fix is
"pulseaudio --kil" and restart LMMS.
I've tried JACK
