Thanks, that worked but it says: Press to establish a connection
with the server. Is there anyways to bypass that and give directly the
login prompt?
It doesn't start X, if I type startx it
gives
PAM authentical failure.
I also dont see the file start_ws generated which I can run.

Greetings,
Today I tried to boot network computers using
second standard LTSP kernel:
vmlinuz-2.4.9-ltsp-lpp-6 instead of vmlinuz-2.4.9-ltsp-6.
I expected a nice boot picture, but I could only
get the same text screen with a lot of lines of text.
I could see a new line though and it was:

If you absolutely must make your own distro (why?) for christ's sake go for .deb.

All my clients demand RedHat.
Have fun.

Hi *,
I am running LTSP in a public library an have two issues that I could
use some input on.
1) User often use the library to access their Hotmail accounts using
Mozilla. The problem arises when there is an attached file. Even if the
file is a known type (i.e. PDF) the attachment is not autom

Etherboot works fine from lilo. We use it every day.
You have to tell us what the problem is before we can gi
Rumour has it that RH is releasing 7.3 on May 6. I will be setting up a new LTSP
server next week and was wondering what to expect if I try to set it up with the new
distribution. How long before RH7.3 is oficcially supported?

Peter,
I setup an entry in my /etc/pluggerrc file to map
PDF files to acroread.
The relevent lines look like this:
application/pdf: pdf: Portable Document Format
exits : acroread "$file"
As for your printer question, sorry, I don't have an answer
for that.

Hi All!
I'm working on a linux distribution for x86 based thin clients, the current
version support XDM, VNC, RDP, ICA, SSH & Telnet. It can boot from network with
Etherboot or from floppy, hd or flash using syslinux and run from a root ramdisk, so
there is not need for a NFS server (o

LTSP users, admins, and developers,
What about a more expansive, global, and adaptive approach to the
utmp/wtmp/sessreg problem?
See the following messages discussing prior solutions to this problem:

Hello Folks,
I think good things are happening in schools with the help of LTSP.
I just sent this out to the school folks and Jim said it should go to
the LTSP list too. One idea in the message below is for a software
freedom day on July 4th. Take a look and let me know if you're

Seriously guys, the world is full of Linux distros that have started off

Yeah, and if its like most of these flimsy inkjets produced these days,
the same light flashes to indicate a paper jam, i/o, power to the
printer, etc, everything under the sun. On windows an informative,
albeit usually buggy and annoying applets runs and tells the user
exactly what the problem is

Peter,
i can help with point 1.:
netscapehas a plugin for adobe pdf, and if it doesn't you can
download linux version (4.05) reader from www.adobe.com. attachments are
dealt with by use of openoffice, that is, if you use k12ltsp distro. if
not, createyour own links for netscape /
hello, that was a point purposfully not mentioned.
Truth is, don't know that. It will take
experimentation, and feedback. so far looks either
debian or maybe a bsd ports style. Input?

The easiest way to say this, because a lot of the
things that will happen are needed. Yes, it is true
that a lot of distros start out with good ideas,
however there are many reasons why a distro can fail.
One of the biggest is financial backing. Linux is a
set of great ideas, however, a lot of
