there's no doubt that the LTSP-5 in Ubuntu and Debian doesn't boot as
fast as LTSP-4.2 did.
With LTSP-4.2, we spent an awful lot of time trimming things down as
much as possible, which had a great effect on the boot speed.
LTSP-5 is a complete re-design, and it hasn't had that fine tuning yet.

We actually invested in a few HP Thin Clients at my company, T5125s.
They are 400MHz with 128MB Ram and Linux. They work great so far (only
had them for a few months). Nice and quiet and support PXE booting.
Also, if you boot into the pre-installed Linux on the flash drive, you
can connect via XD
Hi NG!
I try to use LTSP 4.2 on Fedora 6.
My problem now is that my client does not get an IP adress
from the DHCP server.
The client just seems to ignore the DHCPOFFER command.
To boot the client, I use a CD image from rom-o-matic.net.
On the clients display, it says "Searching for Server (DHCP)
Thanks...

Chris,
I don't know how to tell but have suspected it is LTSP5. I installed it
using like 2 commands and the lat time I fiddled with this it took alot
more than that. I tried find but different syntax. I will try that
when I get home.

Bill,
with LTSP-5 on Debian and Ubuntu, the lts.conf file is not required. I
think on Ubuntu, it's not even created by default.
if you want to create one, go ahead.

Bill,
Since you mention using Ubuntu, it is possible that you've installed
LTSP5, I will assume you did. I have yet to try LTSP5 but I can say the
structure is somewhat different and if I were you (which I plan to try
LTSP5 soon), I would run the find command.
Find / -name lts.conf

Thanks Paul, I do know what it looks like...lol. I am perplexed
because it is not there yet my thin clients boot fine. Also because I
would like to change settings yet there is no file. I know I can create
one but I am thinking there may be one somewhere else that I am missing
hence my chan

LTSP 4.2 was a highly customized boot process, specifically tailored to a
thin-client environment. Pared down rc scripts that executed things in the
most effi

Yes, we've tried LTSP with home-made load balancing.
We set up two identical LTSP servers, _BOTH_ of them (that's the trick)

has any one had any experience of using modern HP Thin clients. Do they
work in an LTSP (or Edubuntu) style setup?
Like for instance using a HP Compaq t5525.
We want to buy some purpose built new units... ones we can source in the
UK. So any other suggestions would be great.
