Create the symbolic link, mandrake-8.2.sh pointing to mandrake.sh
Edit mandrake.sh and where ever you find 8.1 replace it with 8.2
Then install as normal, worked great for me last night.

Forget the XF86CONFIG_FILE option and try this:
X_MODE_800x600 = 62.10 800 900 1000 1100 600 700 800 900 -hsync -vsync
This the only option I use and it works fine for me.

I'm running a terminal under VMware, I played with several memory
configuration, 4, 8 & 32 Mb (no nfs swap). Under all configurations the
kernel boots and X comes up, but under the 4 Mb configuration even though you
get a login window your resources are so depleted the terminal is useless

Which distro of LTSP are you using? If your using 2.0.8 and want to move up
to a 2.4.x kernel I'd suggest moving to 2.0.9 it's stable and runs well on
Mandrake 8.1 (from my experience).

Troy, if your using kdm you'll be able to choose your window manager. I'm
using Mandrake 8.1 so by default kdm is running. With the exception of the
background on the login screen (and screen resolution) it should look just
like your server.

Conrad,
The new version works great on both 2.0.9 kernels, thanks a million!

Andy,
I had the same problem. There are two solutions:
1. Rebuild the kernel image
2. Use PXE to boot
In the past I have gone the route of building kernels for special devices to
to boot ltsp (micro channel laptops) it's alot of work and unless your really

Have you tried running multiple workstations with sound concurrently? I
tried with 1b and ltsp 2.08 but was only able to run sound on one workstation.

James,
Check the setting is in /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf. Look for xdmcp stanza
and make sure Enable=true (or =1). If you are using xdm or kdm then
search the appropriate conf file for the equivelent. If anybody is using
Mandrake 8.1 the config file is /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.

Has anyone (besides me) tried running Madrake 8.1 as a server. I have been
running Mandrake 8.0 for quite sometime but after upgrading to 8.1 X would
start on the X terminal but the login screen would not appear. This seems
very familiar, it seems like I was having this problem when 8.0 wasn'
