It's happening to me since 14.04. Saucy Salamander worked fine. But
still without automatic grid alignmnent, I hate when I move an icon
and it's 3px on the right compared to the others, and then you cannot
reposition anymore.

A friend of mine with Ubuntu 14.04 has the same situation. And he
didn't add any PPA.

I have the NVidia drivers and my system works fine. LXPanel is just a
panel, it can't affect to any browser. Have you enabled the GLX
features on Chrome? Does it happen when you deactivate the driver and
use the default one?

I find Evince to be functional, but at least in Saucy, I agree that the menus

Anyway, the Lubuntu theme has backward compatibility for old GTK2 apps.
This annoyance shouldn't exist. Try that, change your theme to the one what
shipped in 12.04 (Precise Pangolin).

Unity., but Lubuntu Trusty Tahr runs as fast as light, with
compositing and transparency effects. Trusty doesn't have more RAM
consumption than Precise. You should install anwhere, and I recommend it,
because the developers may fixed some bugs you still have on your computer.

You lost the mime association only to XLS format. Try to change your icon
theme, install LibreOffice and lo-thumbnailer, and reassign filetype to
LibreOffice.
