I would ask for a professional luthier to look at it, because it was
repaired in the past, and the attempt failed. I do not know the exact
nature of the "fracture", but I can guess that if you glued it together,
and it seemed OK, but failed with string tension? .You could try again,
If you really value your lute you'd better never use ANY synthetic
glues, whether it's cyanacrylate, PVA, 'Gorilla' glue, Titebond etc. If
there is absolutely no choice but synthetic, use the last one, i.e.
Titebond. It's always best to re-glue the broken join when it is 'fresh'
and not spoiled
Hello Howard-
At this point I would take it to a luthier rather than fix it myself
for two reasons:
1. It's now an old injury- a fresh, new break would provide clean
wood surfaces to work with; and now having to deal with old glue in
addition to the age factor presents a double contamination is

I think this must be a minor repair. The decoration is a light
piece of carved holly that is sitting in the pegbox, and it doesn't
play any role.

For minor repairs I use 'white' glue. It's perfectly reversable in the
sense that the glued on bits tend to fall off again after some years.
For more serious things or larger bits that came off, I use hide/bone
