On a side note. I think much of modern lute music should be printed in

It sounds like the version that was in the Rooley Lute Tutor. I can't
remember the name of the book and it is in storage so I can't put my
hands on it.
I would hazard a guess that it was edited that way to be friendlier
to a novice lutenist.

I have a Sony PCM-M10 that I am extremely happy with. The built-in
microphones are very good and the recording is accurate and detailed

i've used the Zoom H2 quite a lot.
It depends on how much you want to spend, and what you mean by CD quality.
..and how portable.
The Zoom certain gets excellent results considering that it fits in the pocket
alongside plenty of left over cash.
If you're going to be recording your own cd
Anthony: I would like to put in a plug for the Edirol R-09 recorders from
Roland. They are among the most compact and lightest of the pocket recorders.
The original version was made in Japan, but has a relatively fragile design for
the door that covers the memory chip slot and the batteries,
For a few days I've been a proud owner of a Tascam stereo mic for iPhone.
To be tested in the next few!

Dear lutenists,
many thanks to all, who commented very interestingly - in public and in
private - the Capirola Padoana!
I have been checking also some other pieces by mesez Vicenzo capirola,
as the SPES facsimile names the composer on the cover. It seems to be

Yes, give me modern notation for modern music, every time.

Thanks, David. I had not managed to recall E J Dobson, but you have, so
thanks for that too. Incidentally, I think it was also he who

Well, I'm not sure. Modern Swedish lute music seems to be in modern
notation, or much of it anyway. The Five White Pieces by Lars Sandberg
would be a lot more straightforward in tablature, or at least some way
of indicating where certain notes are to be played. I can only figure

Back sometime in the early 1980's my wife (the soprano who must be obeyed!)

Be Warned: I have been using Tascam DR100. Less than 2 years,
maybe in action about 10 times. Treated with kid gloves.
After charging last week it will not power up. Good batteries, good
charger/ AC adapter. Nothing.
So far Tascam's service communication is miserable. I am in limbo.
