I've successfully installed Linux as a VMWare virtual machine, and it's also
possible to download a USB drive version of Vinux to your Bootcamp Windows
partition (assuming you have one). From there, you can install it on a thumb
drive, which you can use on practically any computer.
I have not tried Stata, but I'm very interested in whether or not it is
accessible. Please post on this list whatever you discover about the
accessibility of Stata.

A Mac is all I have ever used, since I started using computers around 25 years
ago. I have never owned a Windows machine. I have been using Bootcamp for
about a year and a half now, and it works just fine for those few tasks that I

How does one get the ls command in Unix to display directories whose names
consist of more than one word, separated by a space? For example,
