In this instance, Windows 10 is the foistware: the condition of using earlier,

Thank you for this. I still have a PC that I use for running Duxbury and
Kurzweil. I don't want to go to Windows 10 either, so very much appreciate the
warning.

I think (hope!) it suffices just to not install recommended updates, or turn
off automatic download of all updates completely. Of course if you opt out of
recommended updates you’ll now have to come back every so often and check for
updates in the recommended updates list that you actually

I'm kind of rusty at Windows updates, but here's what I've done to avoid this
so far:
One, changed windows update settings from "download and install automatically"
to notify me before downloading
2, I unchecked the "give me recommended updates the same way I get important

This is infection-ware that I have been resisting ever since it
appeared. Just today I "hid" 2 optional updates that claim to improve
the Windows Update client.
The sooner I move over to the Mac full time the better.

Actually, I really like Windows 10.
Microsoft have certainly learned from the catastrophic disaster that
was Windows 8.
It runs very well on my mid-2014 MacBook Pro.
Glad they brought back the start button and got rid of the tiles.
Over all very happy with the update.

Sure, a great update. But I refuse to use a version of Windows that takes such
a cavalier attitude to privacy and end-user control and will not consider using
it until both are substantially and verifiably altered in favour of the user.

Well, Apple are certainly doing it, but they take a different tack: they merely
punish you if you say “No”. But at least you can actually say “No”.
I am worried about the MS direction. Even if I don’t move to Win10—and I so
far have absolutely no intention of doing that—there’s still all the

Let me put it like this. While that is probably true, Microsoft
infected my Windows installation on the Mac by trying to get me to let
them put Windows 10 on it. I could not in any way get past it and could
not get other Windows updates. I do not know what their game is, why
