An easy way to calculate the area of overlapping polygons from two MapInfo
tables is to use the "set target" function.
Select all from table1
Click on OBJECT>SET TARGET
Select all from table2
Click on OBJECT>ERASE OUTSIDE
The area remaining in table2 is the total area of overlap

If you are proficient with programming, it would be a simple MapBasic
program to edit each .tab file with the revised style information. Or
perhaps you know someone who could write the code for you. It would only be
a few lines.

This is what seamless layers are for. Check that out.

I asked this question a while ago and the only alternative despite having
ArcInfo to convert the files in E00 format was to use ArcView to read them
and convert to shapefiles.
I haven't tried the Arcview path, and I'm not sure if it works.

Good morning all,
I ran Mark Ogilvie's mbx demonstrating problems with the area calculations
in MI. As a test, I constructed some smaller triangles by overlay at the

The following tools proved very useful for both importing and then
combining 1:250K Vector data from a large number of same structure tiles

Append2 is the one your after if you have already done the import-Run it

All appear at the mapinfo-l file archive.

There is a MapBasic program which is part of Kevin Mahoney utilities called

problem. To summarise wha

Hi Phil
I'm not familiar with your projection so I may be way out here but
MapInfo chops the Minimum bounding rectangle for your Map projection
into 4000 million pieces ( a LONG value )( ie +- 2GB). If you do not set
a MBR then the smallest unit that you can use can be quite large.
