Elizabeth,
WorldReg is the tool you need. If you search the archives, I'm sure you will
find a link to it.

IMHO, the wit and humor of Bill Thoen is a high form of art. That crazy
ozzy, Ashley, is pretty good too.

Hi Christine,
Use Universal Translater found under the Tools menu. If you don't know the
projection, you can usually open the .e00 file in a text editor, and then
search for Proj. Projection parameters should be nearby.

Tim,
Global Mapper will take a tab file and convert to a GeoTIFF. It's a great
piece of software for $219.

Hello Brandi,
You can do it this way. Use the labeller.mbx on the full extent. Then zoom
to correct scale, and change text size using the Options menu. For some
reason, this will cause all of the text to shift. Now, select all of the
text objects, and move all objects to correct position in
Matt,
Although extremely inelegant, the labeller.mbx route will do the job. The
step you are missing is to select all of the correctly sized labels and move
them as a group. I like to key in on a critical area before resizing so I have a
better idea on where to reposition. Then it's trial an
Matt,
I'm sorry but I don't have any real bright ideas. Perhaps you could split
the labels out into separate tables based on their characteristics and then
reposition each table. And if Jacques Paris can't figure out a fix it may well be
impossible.

Season's Greetings to all in MapInfo-List land!
I have a new Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop with Win XP Pro as the operating
system. It chokes when I try to install my 4.5 version of MapInfo. Do I need to
'bite the bullet' and upgrade after many faithful years with 4.5? Also can I

MI-Listers,
A belated Thank you to MapInfo Guru Emeritus, Steve Wallace, Gilbert H., Nick
Bean, and Bill Thoen for advice concerning MapInfo 4.5 and Windows XP Pro.
MI 4.5 will not work with Windows XP Pro. I have upgraded to MI 7.5 through
GISnet.com, and am impressed with all the new features
Hello Philip,
It's pretty simple. Within the layout window, select the logo frame. Then
go to the Options menu, and select region style. Chose "none" for Fill pattern
and Border style.

Hello Frank,
I know that the same thing happens when you use 'clear cosmetic objects'
command. The untouched autolabels are removed but not the labels that have been
manually repositioned.

Hello Travis,
First, open the file with a text editor (Word will work), and search for
"proj" to determine the data's projection. In MI 7.5, use the universal
translator under the Tools menu; for MI 4.5, use ArcLink under tools. Pick e00 for
format and chose whether want to translate as MIF
Hello MapInfo Listers,
With MI 7.5, distances can be measured using either spherical or cartesian
coordinates. Which option should be used on USGS 7 1/2 minute quadrangle maps?
I would guess spherical but I want to make sure I get it right. Which system
did MI 4.5 use?
Thanks,

Dave,
Why not just export from MapInfo as a .dbf file which can then be opened up
directly in Excel?

Paul,
If you have the world file (.tfw) along with the tif, you can use the World
Reg utility (which can be downloaded from the Directions Magazine site) to
easily register a tif file.

Hello Listers,
The GISdataDepot has spotty coverage for Pennsylvania 250K drgs. Is there an
alternative site? I searched the web but could only find 24K quads. In
particular, I need to obtain the Warren and Williamsport quadrangles.
Thanks in advance,

Chris,
I use Search and Replace shareware (www.funduc.com) for such situations. It
can globally modify your workspaces although it is probably best to limit
modifications to specific directories. Operations can also be limited to

How about exporting the SID file out of Global Mapper as a geoTiff for use
in MapInfo. I have had good success changing projections of raster files
within Global Mapper for use with MapInfo.

I can help you out with WGS84. WGS84 is found under the
Longitude-Latitude projection category way down towards the bottom and is called
Longitude-Latitude (WGS84).
