I would prefer a 602 turbo which is pretty easy to find. Still for
someone that needs it, that one is ready to go.

Check the service valves. If it's been retrofitted it will have R-134a valves
on it and they will be obvious, as they are typically "piggybacked" on the
existing R12 valves.

Yup...high 80's. Triple digits are just around the corner. I don't mind
windows down, sunroof open but SWMBO prefers windows upunless it's a
convertible.

Check both valves. My car had a half-a** job: The top valve was R-134, while
the bottom was still R-12. Go figure.
Since I am having compressor issues (hopefully just a clutch), I may flush the
system and put the R-12 valve back on. I want to use Freeze 12 instead of 134.

Same here. It's starting to touch the low 80s, which I don't mind with the
vents open and sunroof tipped up. SWMBO wants to feel like she's sticking her
head in the refrigerator, so anytime she is on board, the AC is on...

134a valves are red and green and something like 5/8" OD.
Check the service valves. If it's been retrofitted it will have

The 603 in the W126 does fine. It's not ridiculously fast, but I wouldn't

The R107 probably is heavier than a W126. The W126 was the first
chassis with high strength, thinner steel. I'd guess the W126 s
around 2700 pounds sitting in the drive and the R107 is 3200 or so.
It would be OK with a 603, but I don't think of a 300SDL as a fast
car, particularly. Nice
If you can't drive the piss out of it, and walk away saying "Wow, what a
car!" to yourself, then you need to fix it. Doesn't matter how old it is.
