Thanks Wilton, I considered that route as well, however after some study
and measurement [happen to have a few Mercedes around to measure] I find
clamping anything to the drain channel would disrupt the trunk seal rubber
and breach the trunk seal in a way that could generate a leak path. So, my

I've considered such mounted to side of the drain channel beneath side of
trunk lid, too, so as not to affect trunk lid operation - remain fixed.

The design I'm thinking of would clamp to the edge of the trunk at the side
seam and perhaps be the length of the straight portion of the trunk lid, so
there was plenty of good solid support that wouldn't come loose in heat,
like a suction cup will eventually.
Same clamping system for the door pie
My dad uses these in the shower:

While looking for a link to those, I saw this and thought that looked smaller
and more tasteful.

Car just needs to be white!
The license plate mounts are pretty stout. I wonder if a heavy
sheet metal dingus could be fabbed that screwed behind the
plate, and had 1/2" grab bars coming out of it, up and across the
back of the trunk, and perhaps around the edge a bit. They'd
need to be white.
Been thinking 'bout bar mounted to underside lip of trunk for 2 or 3 weeks.
Yes, I've noticed how such can be done without affecting original
function/operation. I can easily reach those areas.
'Had not considered such on doors 'cause the door handles serve the purpose

Yep, been concerned about the heat durability of the plastic and rubber.

Wilton,
If you had grab bars that attached to the top of the doors and were the
length of the top of the door [front and rear, individual pieces] , then
another grab bar that attached to the side lip of the trunk and ran the
length of the trunk, Could you reach them easily?

Yes, a fact of life that we must adapt as things change.
I was just concerned that the heat might cause trouble with your suction
cup gripper and let you down, so I was trying to think of options for
you. You were ahead of me and had already tried them. It is unfortunate
that your car is black
Yep, can pop trunk on approach (tried it coupla. times), but what about
departure? I don't have a powered trunk lid for closing it after I leave
it.

If that doesn't work out, perhaps a set of hand rails mounted around the
car, starting at the front of the drivers door, going back all around the
trunk lid. Paint it white, and it'll look like a stripe from a distance. It

Just be careful and don't fall!
Would it help if you popped the trunk so that you could lift the lid
from the side and hang onto the area where the weatherstripping is? That
might be cooler than the surface of the trunk lid. Or, keep some leather
gloves in the car and pull them on before you st

As some of you may know, I'm unable to stand or walk safely without aid. I
use a walker (rollator) around the house, back and forth to the car and for
short trips from the car. For longer trips from car, such as shopping,
touring museum, etc., I use an electric mobility scooter kept in trunk of
