On the in line injector pumps ( MW Type ) there is a centrifugal
governer which I understand attempts to control idle speed and maximum
rpm . What does it do between these two extreme ranges? Does it work a
bit like a speed control where if engine load increases for fuel is
injected? If so it certa
There was evidence of steam cleaning/ pitting in cambers though.

Eventually I dismantled my 300GD engine ( OM617.91 ) and discovered a
crack on cyl #1 between the two valves. Engine has never overheated in
last 6 years I have had it and water usage is negligable ( 0.5 l / 2
km ). Is this problem commonplace ?
Peter
. Has this ever happened to anyone before as my enginneering
shop says they have never seen this before!.
Peter merle
Check with the parts people - the new part might be a 12 point nut., so
the only problem might be to get it off. Gringing a socket only will
generally not be strong enough - you will have to harden it or weld
hardened steel teeth to the socket - that what I did for my G-wagon.

Thanks for you help Craig, Yes its for a stick shift.
Where BTW did you get the part no from for the flywheel as 6170320001 is
not on the EPC that the dealers have - is it perhaps the original part
no when the vehciles were first lauched?

Does anyone have access to a loose 300D OM617 flywheel - I'm looking for
the dimension 'a' amd the casting no at th eback . I have a casting no
of 6170320001 with a 19.5 mm recess dimension 'a'. Not sure if its an
original 300D flywheel or perhaps it's a M110 flywheel!

I decided to drop my gearbox to have a look at the clutch shudder that I
am experience on my 300GD ( OM617 engine with 4 speed manual box ). I
found that the pressure place surace was highly polished and the inner
surface was lower than the outer surface. The flywheel has a 2-3 high
spots. Now what

On my W123 the front tyres , both are exhibiting a strange wear pattern
where the outer blocks have a kind of saw-tooth pattern. Had alignment

the same thing. Shocks are new Bilsteins. Ball joints and arms are all

Thanks Dan , will give that a go. I was also told by a very experienced
Merc mechanic that the proshaft flange nut at the end of the
transmission can come loose which results in a low governer pressure
resulting in incorrect shifting.
I tried to remove the rubber coupling and slowly realised that

As I said I don't recall from the article the exact nature of the
problem , but it was about WVO not SVO. Something about the longer
Hydrogen-carbon chains having a detremental affect on the engine.

In normally accepted mercedes speak the G series refers to the Gwagon -

I seem to recall that using heated WVO in an old Merc eg W123 300D will
cause premature engine failure/damage - does anyon e know what that
failure is likely to be. There is a local guy who is doing that and
claims that his car has been going fine for x km 's.
