I had to replace my tank (1983 300TD) due to a leak as you describe. Unless
the price of a new one has gone down I recommend you purchase a good used

300 CD. ALL the elements (both doors, trunk lock, gas filler door) have been
replaced so it's something else pretty major... The vacuum poops out in
about 10 hrs.

I would rather do the simpler drain procedure via the radiator petcock
annually. This is a cheap and easy maintenance item for a DIYer such as
myself.

Flex pipes are a PIA on my 123 wagon. Had to replace one (SS) twice
