having encountered similar fittings on older MBs that lived in the North, I
never had one of these fittings get boogered up as long as I left penetrating
oil on it for at least 24 hours and used flare nut wrenches

That's not a major issue - I have an iMac G5 that runs Leopard and an Xserve G5
dual processor with a 5TB Xserve RAID that runs Leopard Server. Both are very
functional machines and play quite nice with my machines running Snow Leopard

what your critical loads are. Until you do that, you're just flailing around.
Make a list of must have loads and write down their wattages.
